The GTM strives to contribute to Priority 1 of the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk reduction 2015-2030: "Understanding Disaster Risk". As such, the process of establishing GTM has been formally endorsed by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR) and by the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR).
